Miscellaneous.. | ... | GUIDE FOR NEW STUDENTS 2002-2003 Campus Information AVERY HILL CAMPUS Accommodation The Accommodation Office is sited with the reception at Aragon Court and is open from 9.00am-5.00pm Monday to Friday. The Accommodation Officer is Lynn Webb (ext. 9664) Bank A Barclays Bank cash point is situated in the Mansion Hall corridor by the Reception desk. Branches of the major High Street banks are located in Eltham High Street which is approximately 1.5 miles from the Mansion Site. Bicycles Bicycles should be padlocked or otherwise immobilised in the cycle racks provided. They should not be brought into buildings. . Booking of Rooms/Gyms Any student group wishing to book a room during semester-time at Avery Hill should do so through the Campus Registry, on 8444. Evening bookings must be discussed in the first instance with the appropriate House Manager. Weekend and vacation bookings may be booked through the Conference Officer, Kath Sinnott, on ext. 8121. Catering All catering facilities are available to those attending Courses and may also be used by visitors to the campus. Mansion Site: Greengages, Bird Sanctuary building, a bistro style service offering hot and cold meals/snacks/sandwich bar/tea and coffee available - open: Monday - Friday 8.30am-3.30pm); Engine Room (run by Students' Union), near main entrance, Mansion building - open: snack service - Monday - Thurs. 8.30am-3.30pm; Fri. 8.30am-3.00pm; The Pantry, situated near Reception is open Monday – Friday 9.30am-3.30pm for sandwiches and hot and cold drinks. Southwood Site: The Dome, sandwich snacks and hot meals available - open, Monday-Friday 10.30am-4.00pm; the Students' Union shops in the student village and on the Mansion Site are open until 9.00pm during semester. Sparrows Farm Leisure Centre, Sparrows Lane, off Avery Hill Road - bar open: Mon, Tues, Thurs. and Fri 4.00pm-11.00pm; Wed and Sat 11.00am-11.00pm and 12.00am-10.30pm on Sunday. Campus Registry and Finance Offices Located on the ground floor of the Bird Sanctuary Building, and provides the following services, Student Records, course choices, Time-tabling and Rooming, the submission of coursework, issuing award and bursary cheques, collection of fees, examinations and general enquiries. Open for enquiries between 9.30am-6.00pm Monday - Thursday and 9.30am to 5.00pm on Fridays ext 8444; 9585. . House Manager The House Manager is responsible for Residences and House Services. His office is based in the Student Village. ex 9667. Lee Devlin is the Deputy House Manager and supports the House Manager Learner Support See materials within the Library. Contact Student Services ext. 9444 for information on English for International Students and for Dyslexia / special needs learning support. Student Services run Study Skills Workshops on the Southwood Site, in Durkheim. The tutor covers aspects such as Essay Writing, Note-taking and Reading Skills. No booking in necessary. Students can just turn up. Details available from Student Services Reception Lost Property The loss of any personal or University property should be reported to the House Manager. Articles found should be handed in either to Reception Desk Mansion Site, Aragon Reception or Security Gatehouse ex 9101 Residents of the Student Village will receive correctly addressed mail direct to their block. Mail with an incorrect address will be sorted alphabetically in the pigeon holes at Aragon Reception. Prayer Room Provision Room R002 is a prayer room for use by all members of the University. Shops There is a full range of shopping facilities in Eltham High Street. On campus there are Student Union shops in the Student Village and on the Mansion Site catering for all course requirements. Smoking Permitted Area Southwood Site: The Dome Bar areas only Sparrows Farm: Bar area Sports & Recreation For enquiries telephone 020 8331 8088. Please refer to the sports noticeboards and the Student Union Office for exact details of what sports and recreation activities are available on this campus. Sparrows Farm Leisure Centre Enquiries: For squash court and general enquiries telephone 020 8331 9945. You can also contact the Students' Union Sports Officer on 020 8331 9599. Student Loans Office Located in the Campus Registry ext. 8082 Student Services Suzanna Stein is the Co-Acting Head of Student Services, based at Avery Hill Campus Tel: 020 8331 9661. A full range of support services are available to students in the Student Services Centre, U Building on Southwood Site: Finance Advice; Jobshop; Careers Guidance; Counselling; Complementary Therapy; Study Skills Support; Disability and Dyslexia Support; Equal Opportunities; Mentoring; Chaplaincy; Medical Service and a Nursery. Students' Union Offices are situated in the Village, office hours are 10.00am-3.00pm Teaching Buildings Opening Times The teaching blocks of the campus are open during semester time: Monday - Friday 8.30am-10.00pm; Saturday only the Library at Mansion Site and other areas if specifically requested Telephones There are pay phones on the Mansion Site and a number of pay phones around the Southwood Site. Urgent messages for students can be left with the School Office. The University telephone number is 020 8331 8000. Wheelchair Access Tower, Fry & Bronte computing laboratories are not suitable for wheelchair users due to the absence of lifts. The Library is accessible, except the North Hall Mezzanine. The Durkheim on Southwood Site is Wheelchair accessible, along with Aragon Reception. We also have specially adapted flats. | x | Back To:
