-1. Addresses for results

Because of the problems we have experienced in waiting for students to provide self-addressed envelopes for their results, we will be using each student's home address, as shown in the University's database, to send assessment results, notification of referred or deferred assessments if any, and an invitation to the Awards Ceremony, if appropriate.

Please make sure that the home address we have for you is correct and if there is a change, please notify your Campus Registry, in writing immediately. It is your responsibility to ensure that we hold the correct address so that you receive essential information in time to take the right action. If your home is outside the UK and you will not be returning home at the end of term after your assessment, please make arrangements with your Campus Registry to have your results sent to the address where you will be staying.

-2. Publication of Assessment Results

Assessment results will be posted via the Web where possible. Results will be confirmed by letter to the candidate concerned, to her/his home address as held in the University student database.

Official assessment results will not be given over the telephone. Any information on results not provided in writing must be regarded as unofficial.

-3. Referred and Deferred Examinations and Assessments

The University is moving away from the use of examination as the major means of referral. Other forms of referred assessment will be made available and you will be informed of the most appropriate referral mechanism by the Course Co-ordinator. Those referrals taking the form of an examination will be published in schedule form in the same manner as that for the main examinations. Most referred examinations take place in the August/September following the June examinations. You are advised to check the 2000-2001 Semester Schedule for details of when referred/deferred exams are due to take place. It is your responsibility to check the relevant notice board in the Campus Registry for details of the examination arrangements and other forms of referred assessment. Details will not be given out over the telephone.

The procedures to be followed in respect of referred and deferred examinations will be the same as those laid down for all other examinations. The procedures for assessments will be detailed by the Course Co-ordinator

-4. Academic Appeals

In very special circumstances it may be possible to appeal against your result after the Progression and Award Board has reached its decision. Guidance on this is given in Appendix 3.

-5. Issue of Certificates/Awards Ceremony arrangements

Only those students who successfully complete their studies between 1 August 2000 and 31 July 2001 will be eligible to attend the Awards Ceremonies for the year.

All students whose awards are conferred at Progression and Award Boards after this period, including those who resit in the September, will have to attend Awards Ceremonies in the following year.

All final stage students will be sent a letter early in February 2001, inviting them to attend the Awards Ceremony, subject to successfully completing their programme of study. The invitation letter will include a reply slip which students will be required to complete stating whether or not they wish to attend the Ceremony. This reply slip must be returned by the date specified in the letter. Please note that students who return their reply after the due date will be refused admission to the Ceremony; and students with outstanding financial obligations to the institution will not be invited to the Ceremony.

For students who do not attend the Ceremony, their certificates will be sent by post as soon as possible after the Ceremony, to the home address as held in the University's student database. Students with outstanding financial obligations to the institution will not receive their certificates until those obligations have been fulfilled.
