4. Students with special needs
Students with special needs arising from a disability, dyslexia or long-term medical condition must contact the Disability and Dyslexia Centre for an evaluation of their entitlement to examination provisions.
Students claiming entitlement will need to either complete an entitlement form attaching evidential material, e.g. educational psychologist report or attend the Disability and Dyslexia Centre for an evaluation of their entitlement needs. If appropriate evidence is not available, the Disability and Dyslexia Centre will arrange an evaluation of your entitlement to assessment provision.
Entitlement forms are available from the Disability and Dyslexia Centre, Student Services School offices and Campus Registries.
You need only submit an entitlement form and supporting evidence once: any approved exam entitlement will be carried forward to the next Semester and into the next academic session. However, if your individual requirements may change, you must contact the Disability and Dyslexia Centre directly and arrange a further assessment.
There will be a deadline each session for submission of Entitlement forms and you should check the deadline dates with your Campus Registry or contact the Disability & Dyslexia Centre.
For further advice students should contact the Disability and Dyslexia Centre on 020 8331 7864.
If you think your performance in a formal assessment may be affected by illness, or by family circumstances such as bereavement, you must put forward your extenuating circumstances to the Progression and Award Board; it is in your best interests.
Extenuating circumstances must be submitted on the appropriate form available from your Campus Registry, Student Services or Students' Union. Your claim must be supported by independent evidence, e.g. medical certificate, police report etc.
There will be deadlines for submission of claims for Semester 1 and Semester 2. Please contact your Campus Registry for further details of the deadlines. Complete guidance on submitting extenuating circumstances is in Appendix 1.
If you have to be out of the UK at the time of an examination you must contact your Campus Registry as a matter of urgency. You will be required to complete an application form (EO10) to be submitted in the Campus Registry Examinations Office at least one month before the examination(s).
The decision whether to agree late requests, i.e. those made two weeks or less before the date of the examination, is at the discretion of the Campus Registrar. The Campus Registry will investigate whether or not it is possible for you to sit the examination in a different country. Please note that you will be liable to pay an administration fee of up to £30.00 per paper in advance, to cover the costs incurred in taking an examination abroad. You will also normally be liable to pay the invigilation and administration fee charged by the institution where you will be sitting.
